The Shea Center Raises Over $300,000 at 31st – Annual Family BBQ and Country Faire

Date:

San Juan Capistrano, Calif. — Over 1300 guests attended the 31st Shea BBQ and Country Faire on Saturday, September 26 at the organization’s equestrian facilities in San Juan Capistrano. Gross proceeds for the annual fundraising event are estimated at over $300.000. The evening featured silent and live auctions, carnival games for kids and adults, Shea rider demonstrations and live country western entertainment and dancing.

The event highlight was the KleinMatch challenge which exceeded its $250,000 goal. Longtime Shea Center supporters Jenny and Bill Klein agreed to match all new donations made within a 25 day period ending September 30, 2009. These funds will be specifically used to support client services, financial aid for riders in need and the organization’s therapeutic riding programs.

Shea Center Executive Director Dana Butler-Moburg said, “We are so grateful for all of the generosity shown at the BBQ. Claim Jumper volunteers and leaders, long time friends and donors and people who give at every level of time, talent and treasure. Mostly we’re grateful that our clients and their families benefit from all of this support.”

Claim Jumper Restaurants cooked up a hearty BBQ meal of ribs, chicken, potatoes, grilled green beans and of course, their famous motherlode chocolate cake for dessert. The restaurant also provided the event co-chairs – Bill Story and Clint Cuntliff – and approximately 200 volunteers for the event. Some of those same volunteers participated in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure the following day. National Charity League provided about 150 volunteers during the evening.
